New Bit In OneLineBio

Last night I added a bio lookup feature to OneLineBio. Wow. Coming soon: more useful features ;-)

James wondered when the Movable Type plugin would be available. The answer to that would be soon :-) I just need to test it, after 34sp install some of the Perl modules needed. Wordpress plugin will follow.

OneLineBio - Personal Headlines For The Masses

Here’s a new site for you, inspired by David Galbraith’s post about personal headlines, and by Gravatar:

OneLineBio

Recently, I’ve noticed quite a few places around the web which ask you to provide some sort of one line description of yourself: Amazon’s wish lists (and user pages), eBay, Flickr, most online games, and some sites that I’m planning will also find this quite useful. So why should you have to type in the same piece of information over and over again? OLB means you’ll never have to do so again.

And from David Galbraith’s original post:

Create a one line description of yourself, a one-line-bio for others to use in conjunction with your name. I.E in all the places from blogrolls to links to about me pages on weblogs or social networks or FOAF files or resume postings. Anywhere where you would normally use your name as a link, use name: one-line-bio.

Personal headlines. I believe that’s what is needed for a ‘people’ version of RSS to take off.

Of course, I’m making the assumption that other sites utilise this thing. It’s very easy to retrieve your bio (just an HTTP GET request), and although I’ve not yet integrated it anywhere or provided plugins for blogging tools etc., I thought I’d throw it out in the wild and see what happens. If you happen to like it, let me know.

Here’s me:
